From Janis Hutchinson:

Another good reason for not returning to the Mormon Church, is the
church's insistence that for a church to be God's, it has to have a head
prophet. Because they do, along with twelve apostles, this is supposed
to prove the divine approval of their church. I recently posted a new
article on my website, www.janishutchinson.com, that addresses this
subject. Click on What's New?

In the article, besides showing the Biblical reason that the church no
longer requires a prophet, I mention a very exciting facet of history
that shows that Mormonism could not be God's true church. It has to do
with the latter part of the Second Great Awakening that occurred in 1858.
The fact that it occurred twenty-eight years AFTER the Mormon Church was
organized, is worth reading about. Check it out!

  • Many Mormons will be quick enough to tell a mainstream Christian that "We're every bit as much Christian as YOU are!"

However, if a Mormon leaves the LDS Church and becomes a member of that same mainstream Christian church, many of the Mormons who remain LDS will consider the departed one to be an apostate who is to be shunned in this life and who is to be condemned to hell for all eternity.

It seems to me that EITHER of these two positions "might" be true and appropriate -- but that BOTH of them constitute obvious hypocrisy. And I would not want to be a member of such a self-contradicting "church" because the contradictions PROVE that it simply can NOT be a "true" church -- ever!

  • Good comment, Bruce! You are one of the few never-Mormons whose distance from Mormonism gives you a fresh perspective. Thanks -- LCS
