Reason #71: The insights of Representational Research

What follows is the second of a five-part series that Zondervan published on their academic blog, Koinonia.  The subject matter may repeat some previous “365″ posts, but I will nonetheless publish them for those who might not want to scroll back through all the previous posts. The Mormon Mirage, 2 of 5 by Latayne C. Scott A Former Member Looks at the Mormon Church Today Understanding Representational Research One very useful thing about once being so catastrophically wrong about a god — and all associated things religious — is that I am reluctant to say I can never again be mistaken, even in the most crucial areas of my faith.  I have found, as have many ex-Mormons, that such an experience can make one tenuous and fearful. Most...

Reason #65: Because God Refuses to Acknowledge Other Gods

“Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me,” says the Bible in Isaiah 43:10.  In fact, God adamantly said that He didn’t even know of any other real Gods: “You are my witnesses, Is there a God besides Me?  Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.” Aaron Shafovaloff has a humorous take on the Mormon idea that people can become gods and create other humans to worship them. “If your spirit-kids try to worship you in the after-life,” says Shafovaloff,  ”Spank them.” To see videos on this and other subjects, see his YouTube channel here. Interview with Latayne Scott on Pop Syndicate

Today on the Web magazine Pop Syndicate, the editor conducted what she calls “a virtual sitdown” with me concerning my writing. In the interview, I shared with her an incident that occurred when I was writing both Latter-day Cipher and The Mormon Mirage. I related how I went to a city where I knew I would be unknown to the local Mormons, attended LDS services and immersed myself in the doctrines. I had to be sure I made the right decision to leave. To stay away. I am sure. For more information, see The Mormon Mirage 3rd Edition:  A Former Member Looks at the Mormon Church Today (Zondervan, 2009). Also available as an audiobook and as an expanded-text E-book for Nook, Kindle and other reading...

Reason #64: Because I gave it a second chance
